Dimmvidir is a shadow realm accessible from darkened spaces via shadow magic. While shadow travel allows swift transit, prolonged exposure erodes a traveler's will to leave, risking permanent entrapment. Voluntary visits carry further risk: drawing the attention of the realm's ruling Sovereigns can result in capture or forced servitude, often demanding tolls ranging from dangerous quests to personal sacrifices.
Because Dimmvidir connects to shadows across physical realms, darkened spaces serve as access points. Using shadow magic, travelers can enter through one shadow and exit through another. However, lingering too long dampens the desire to return, leading to permanent entrapment. Once trapped, the only escape is ascending through the realm's post-mortem trials. Other entry points include:
Dimmvidir exists in perpetual twilight. Visuals are muted and shifting, blurring the horizon and obscuring distances. Silence dominates the realm, save for occasional disorienting whispers. The air is cool, stagnant, and carries a metallic tang. Sensory perception is unreliable; seemingly solid objects often dissipate into mist upon touch.
This oppressive atmosphere acts as a psychological maze. The environment reflects an intruder's anxieties and self-doubt, making navigation as much a mental endurance test as a physical journey.
To attain redemption within Dimmvidir, a soul must complete trials across ten domains ruled by demonic Sovereigns. Each domain tests a specific aspect of human character and resilience.
Overcoming a realm's trial awards the soul a Shard of Life from the ruling Sovereign. Collecting all ten shards grants audience with King Phoregris for a final, comprehensive trial. Failing at any stage sends the soul back to the previous trial, turning the process into a grueling, cyclical descent.
Dimmvidir’s court is fiercely competitive. Demonic Princesses scheme to ascend to Queen by securing alliances and the King’s favor, while Princes often plot to overthrow King Phoregris directly through rebellion or betrayal. King Phoregris maintains absolute control by balancing these rivalries and enforcing strict balance across the realm.
Once a celestial phoenix, Phoregris was reborn through fire and shadow to rule Dimmvidir. He enforces strict justice and balance. His trials weigh a soul's core integrity; those who pass ascend to higher realms, while those corrupted beyond redemption are cast into the Severed Realm.
Long ago, Phoregris was a celestial phoenix representing rebirth. When a primal ember of creation fell into the chaotic Severed Realm, the gods tasked Phoregris with retrieving it.
The phoenix descended into the abyss and successfully secured the ember, but suffered severe corruption from the realm's dark energy. Fleeing toward celestial space, its strength failed, and it crashed at the borders of Dimmvidir.
As the phoenix died, its rebirth pyre fused its celestial flame with the lingering shadow corruption. From the ashes rose Phoregris—a hybrid entity of light and shadow. Taking dominion over the perpetual twilight of Dimmvidir, Phoregris transformed the realm into a purgatorial borderland, using his dual nature to guard the cosmos against the chaos of the Severed Realm.
